I joined up with a group to shoot from the top of the parking deck for the Georgia Tech Hotel. This was a spot listed on a recent AJC article about favorite locations for skyline shots, and so I couldn’t resist the chance to go. On the downside, there were well over 100 other photographers also going which made it a bit difficult to stake out a unique and isolated spot. In fact, I ended up arriving slightly late only to find that at least 30 or so people had taken up spots along the prime railing to view the downtown skyline. After no success finding an alternative location any lower (or elsewhere along the top of the deck) I realized that there were open areas in the stairwell where only 1 other person had set up. Even though I was isolated from the rest of the group, I think it also gave me exactly the vantage point I was looking for. One of my favorite shots was from being able to scan up and down the connector to view the traffic from Atlantic Station all the way into midtown (or at least the North Avenue exit).
